Clean Your Skincare Routine For Under $100 Dollars

A WOW Editor dives deep to clean your skincare routine for under $100

Want movie star skin, but don’t have a movie star budget? Want to swap your old products for a totally clean skincare routine you can feel good about? Us too!

Our interest in clean beauty and great skin is one of the reasons why our founder started West ofWild. Yet, with all the celebrities and influencers touting clean skincare products, a totally clean skincare routine can seem unattainable. Our goal is to make it more accessible.

With this in mind, one editor at WOW set out to create a totally clean skincare routine for under $100 dollars.

She scoured the clean beauty world for five skincare essentials that are effective, clean, and won’t break your budget. Think of these products as the first step towards going clean. As you continue to learn, grow and evolve your skincare routine – you can make swaps to more concentrated natural formulas (that come with a higher price tag). But for now, these affordable clean beauties will do the trick and then some!

But first, let’s clarify, what exactly does clean skincare mean? The unfortunate answer is that is can mean a number of different things. It really depends on who you’re asking.

How to build a clean skincare routine for under $100.

Here at WOW, we only classify a skincare product as clean if it is formulated without:

  • Parabens
  • Phthalates
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate
  • Silicones
  • Polyethylene and polypropylene (Microbeads)
  • Metallic aluminum
  • Triclosan
  • Talc
  • Mineral oil
  • Petrolatum
  • Formaldehyde
  • Toluene
  • Chemical sunscreens (such as oxybenzone, avobenzone, and octinoxate).

Now we know what clean skincare is not, we can start learn about what it is.

Here are the four products our editor found to kickstart your clean skincare routine for under $100:

  • Caudalie Make-up removing cleansing oil: $28
  • Herbavoire Blue Clay Cleansing Bar $12
  • Herbavoire Pink Clay Exfoliating Mask $22
  • Ursa Major Fortifying Face Balm $36

Cleansing Oil (to remove sunscreen & makeup): Caudalie Make-up removing cleansing oil: $28

Throughly removing makeup, sunscreen, dirt and oil is a must for glowing skin. Over the years, we have found that oil based cleansers are the most effective at removing them. So naturally, we had to include an oil-based cleanser in our essential clean skincare routine.

We are in love with Caudalie’s cleansing oil, which feels as luxurious as some of the more expensive cleansing oils we have tried. Plus, it is just as effective at removing makeup and sunscreen. Caudalie’s cleansing oil is made entirely with ingredients of natural origin. These include sunflower seed oil, grape seed oil, and sweet almond oil. The latter gives it a lovely almond scent.

We love taking our time when using this product. We start by gently massaging it directly onto our makeup (it is best used on dry skin) and then rinsing off with lukewarm water.

Foaming Cleanser: Herbavoire Blue Clay Cleansing Bar $12

Because double cleansing is here to stay.

After using an oil cleanser to remove sunscreen and makeup, thoroughly cleanse pores with a slightly foamy gentle cleanser. We love this affordable Blue Clay Cleansing Bar from Herbavoire. We’ll skip this step if our skin is feeling dry or if we aren’t wearing makeup.

Herbavoire’s cleansing bar creates a luxurious lather when combined with water. We love that it’s gentle enough to use every day. The beautiful blue hue created by mineral-rich Cambrian Blue Clay and the soothing Lavender scent makes it feel like a sacred ritual.

Exfoliating Mask: Herbavoire Pink Clay Exfoliating Mask $22

Exfoliating is a crucial step in creating that sought-after glow sans maquieller. So naturally, we felt compelled to include a clean exfoliant in our essential routine. Exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells and uncovers fresh new cells below. This opens the way for moisturizing products to penetrate more deeply into the skin. Thus making your products more effective.

The Pink Clay Exfoliating Mask from Herbavoire, formulated with purifying pink clay, plumping rose hips, and soothing chamomile, is a great starting point for those looking to incorporate exfoliation into their routine without breaking the bank.

Moisturizer: Ursa Major Fortifying Face Balm $36

Moisturizer is probably one of the hardest clean beauty essentials to fit into a tight budget. Luckily, the clean beauty mavens at Ursa Major have your back.

Their fortifying face balm is hydrating and nourishing, yet won’t weigh you down. Formulated with top notch ingredients like aloe, carrot, kendi, myrtle and birch, you get a lot of hydrating bang for your buck.
